An Introduction to Public Choice Theory with Dr Riko Stevens
May 7 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm AWST
In this session, Dr Riko Stevens will provide an introduction to the sub-discipline of economics known as public choice theory. Described by founder and Nobel laureate James Buchanan as “politics without romance”, public choice theory entails applying economic methodology to the sphere of political science. It includes such topics as rent seeking, regulatory capture, pressure-group activity, government failure, constitutional design, voting paradoxes, and the economics of bureaucracies.
Dr Stevens is a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Notre Dame Australia, Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia, and Treasurer of the Economic Society of Australia (WA Branch).
