Mannkal Scholarship Program

The Mannkal Scholarship Program is open to Western Australian tertiary students enrolled in any degree with an interest in philosophy, economics, and public policy. 

Participation in the Mannkal Scholarship Program includes seminars and events, entrepreneurship training, skills development and the opportunity to apply for conferences and internships in Australia and overseas.

Applications for the Mannkal Scholarship Program open annually for Western Australian tertiary students. Applicants should expect a competitive but supportive selection process, with shortlisted candidates contacted after applications close.

Successful Scholars are selected based on initiative, curiosity, and engagement with ideas around economics, public policy, and a free society, and will be notified once the review process is complete.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Mannkal Scholarship Program, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a tertiary course at a Western Australian university;
  • Be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency; and
  • Live in Western Australia.

Selection Process

You will be required to submit an application online. You will then be invited to an interview.

Mannkal Scholarship opportunities are highly sought after, and places are strictly limited. Please ensure that you follow all directions when applying.

Internships

Mannkal offers a range of internship opportunities designed to complement the Scholarship Program and provide practical, real-world experience. Internships are available with Mannkal and through its national and international partner organisations, spanning policy, research, communications, and related fields.

Opportunities are advertised throughout the year and are competitive. Scholars are encouraged to apply, with selections based on merit, initiative, and alignment with the host organisation. Internships are unpaid and can take place locally or overseas, depending on the role and partner.

These partnerships include policy research institutes, advocacy groups, and economic education centres that share our commitment to free markets, individual liberty, and professional excellence.

Through these collaborations, Mannkal connects interns to immersive opportunities with institutions such as the Atlas Network, the Foundation for Economic Education, the Institute of Public Affairs, the Centre for Independent Studies, and others — offering exposure to cutting-edge ideas and influential practitioners.

Why become a Mannkal Scholar?

Mannkal Scholars are invited to a series of seminars and programs across broad skills and themes. During the year they have the opportunity to apply for education and training, internships, and travel. 

Mannkal Scholars are invited to a series of students seminars, events and programs during the year. covers many activities. From student seminars, further education and training, personal and professional development, conferences both domestic and international as well as internship opportunities domestic and internationally.

The Mannkal Scholarship Program is not limited to economics students.

Any Western Australia tertiary student from any degree or major is welcome to apply.

To be eligible to participate in the Mannkal Scholarship Program activities, you must:

  • Be enrolled as a student in a tertiary course at an approved Western Australian institution ;
  • Hold either Australian citizenship or permanent residency;
  • Be based in Western Australia.

Above all, Mannkal values initiative and enthusiasm for a free and open society. We consider students from across all courses and backgrounds. Course marks are one consideration, but this should not deter students who have made contributions in other areas.

A formal study of economics and public policy may be beneficial for applicants, but a keen interest and awareness of the philosophical concepts behind these subjects is also important.

Places are subject to availability and may change without notice. 

Mannkal Scholars are chosen are first submitting an application during the application period.

Successful applicants will be invited to interview.

From this, successful candidates will be notified by email confirming their position as a Mannkal Scholar.

Successful internship applicants will received a payment from Mannkal covering accommodation, travel, daily expenses, and visa cost where necessary.

Mannkal will work Scholars to best navigate work and study commitments. On average Mannkal Scholars will be expected to attend 1 event every fortnight.
